Trump’s Fake News

As we all know Politicians might be caught lying from time to time about various things whether it’s about their personal lives (Bill Clinton claiming he hadn’t cheated on Hillary Clinton), about their online accounts (Hillary Clinton’s 33,000 pages of leaked private emails). Even Ex-President Obama has lied about or expressed opinions as facts in the media. Donald Trump, however, is unlike any of the previous Presidents, his fact checker is simply switched off. Politifact has found that just over a quarter of Obama’s statements they have evaluated were to some degree false. But with Trump, that number is currently over two-thirds. Screen Shot 2017-02-25 at 11.43.33.png

So let’s have a look at some of the things Trump has said so far…

  1. “Look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible.”
  2. “The murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years.”
  3. “If you were a Muslim, you could come in, if you were a Christian, it was impossible.”
  4. “We had a massive landslide victory, as you know, in the Electoral College.”
  5. “I have tremendous support from women.”

….He even lied about the weather in his inauguration “It was almost raining. The rain should have scared them away, but God looked down and said we’re not gonna let it rain on your speech.”

First, it did rain on his inauguration, hence his wife holding up an umbrella and everyone else in the background wearing ponchos. And second, Donald, maybe you can control the “sun kissed” effect on your face, but God was more likely considering flooding your stage rather than bless you with the sunshine you wish weren’t absent.

WHERE IS TRUMP GETTING HIS INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION FROM?

alex jones.jpgThis man right here, Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist and operator of the website Info Wars which seems to be a place where Trump gets a lot of his information. Jones can be responsible for spreading outlandish theories, like claims that 9/11 was a government conspiracy, but his theories have reached tens of millions each month and are now often echoed by Donald Trump himself.

Some conspiracies Trump has publicly talked about include:

  • Obama is the leader of ISIS
  • Obama’s birth certificate could be in fact fake

During Trump’s campaign, Jones published an emergency video directed to Donald Trump, asking him to “think about making the issues of Hillary’s election fraud in the primaries one of the central issues to defeating her in November”. Then, believe it or not, this is what Trump had to say the following day “I’m afraid that the election is gonna be rigged…because I think my side was gonna be rigged.”

Another of Jones’ theories is that there were millions of illegals voting for Hillary, hence Trump tweeting four days later that “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people voted illegally.”

It is surreal to talk about issues here on air and then word for word hear Trump say it two days later. — Alex Jones

Hold up, because there is another source of which Trump seems to be getting all of his information. Oh yes, it is, in fact, the only news channel, according to Trump, that doesn’t spread fake news. That is FOX NEWS.

How do we know that? In a recent tweet, Trump had said:

Ungrateful traitor Chelsea Manning, who should never been released from prision, is now calling President Obama a weak leader. Terrible! – Donald Trump

Fifteen minutes before Trump’s tweet Fox News had used the same words in a segment calling Manning an “ungrateful traitor”. So the President seems to tweet whatever information he has just seen on cable news. And you thought you knew little about politics!

WHY IS THIS DANGEROUS?

Because of the MEDIA. If news channels like Fox News only report information given by Donald Trump without fact checking, millions of people would then get alternative facts from the same sources Trump is using. As long as the media supports his false statements, Donald Trump wouldn’t look like a liar. Instead, he will be seen as the first president, to tell the truth. Trump validated his supporters’ belief about voter’s fraud, and in turn, they validated his because even when he was confronted about the lack of evidence, this is how he responded:

Millions of people agree with me. If you would have looked at one of the other networks of all of the people calling in, they said “we agree with Mr Trump”. They are very smart people.

What’s worse is that when he was confronted about a lack of proof of the voter fraud, Trump disregarded that fact, at which point he is lying.

Finally, John Spicer confirmed Trump’s ignorance when he stated that.

[Trump] believes what he believes based on the information he is provided.
